The bakery and oven unions in Lebanon announced in a statement that "the Minister of Economy has not responded to the bakeries' request to price a loaf of bread according to the fluctuations of the dollar exchange rate and raw materials. He stated that he would price it once a week, while we see the Minister of Energy issuing two prices for stations and companies due to the pressure exerted on him when they are closed, knowing that bakeries have never closed their doors during all crises except when flour was previously cut off by some mills when flour distribution schedules were under the supervision of the Minister of Economy." The statement added: "Today, flour is available at the bakeries thanks to the efforts of the security agencies, but the craziness of the dollar hinders work, and the Minister of Economy does not give this issue any attention despite communication via phone calls, voice and written messages, and statements in visual and audio media. The result remains the same with no response. The dollar stands at the threshold of 57,000 pounds, while the price is set at 53,500 pounds. Since the bakeries only request the pricing from the ministry, as weight and price are officially determined by the ministry, the unions are demanding that the Minister of Economy issue a daily price that aligns with the rise and fall of the dollar exchange rate before 8 PM today, because the bakeries will make a decision they do not desire if the pricing is not issued." The union considered that "the negligence in issuing the price will lead the bakeries to closure, consequently bringing the street to tension and chaos in harsh and difficult circumstances. Those responsible for the consequences of closure are those who hold the decision to issue the price." The unions also called on "the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House Nabih Berri to intervene to resolve the crisis and mitigate the situation to avoid falling into the forbidden, as everyone knows that the game of the dollar is something the bakeries cannot resist, and that the loaf of bread is the only thing upsetting the street. We, as unions, place this matter in your hands to find a definitive and decisive solution."
