Around 311 people have died due to floods that swept through Baghlan province in northern Afghanistan, according to a new report from the World Food Program. Sudden flooding in northern Afghanistan has resulted in the deaths of over 200 people in Baghlan alone, based on an earlier preliminary count. Authorities have declared a state of emergency and dispatched rescue teams to assist the injured. Heavy rainfall on Friday led to the flooding of rivers and mudslides in villages and agricultural lands across several provinces, with the hardest-hit areas being in the northern regions of Baghlan.
