The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority at the Islamic Port of Jeddah has thwarted an attempt to smuggle over 27 kilograms of cocaine, which was found hidden in a shipping container carrying a consignment of potatoes coming to the Kingdom through the port. In coordination with the drug enforcement agency, two individuals awaiting the contraband inside Saudi Arabia were arrested. The authority explained that during the inspection of one of the incoming containers, the cocaine was discovered concealed within the air conditioning unit of the shipment.
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority affirmed its commitment to enforcing strict customs controls on imports and exports in the Kingdom and remains vigilant against smuggling attempts, in line with its strategy focused on enhancing community safety and security by limiting attempts to smuggle such harmful substances and others.
