A major crisis is unfolding in the Egyptian artistic scene between Al-Adl Group, represented by writer and author Medhat El-Adl, and renowned music producer Mohsen Gaber. The crisis erupted over a collection of songs by the late Om Kalthoum after producer Mohsen Gaber issued a statement confirming that Al-Adl Group had infringed upon the rights of several songs owned by "Stars" for artistic production. He indicated that "Al-Adl" used these songs in artistic works.
Gaber's statement did not stop there; he noted that the Association of Authors and Composers, headed by Medhat El-Adl, wrongfully permitted the use of these songs, arguing that Medhat El-Adl confuses his role as the head of the association with his personal projects and interests. These remarks sparked anger from Dr. Medhat El-Adl, prompting him to issue a statement confirming his intention to resort to legal action against what he termed false claims.
He clarified that the deliberate confusion between his personal interests and his role as head of the Association of Authors and Composers reflects the absurdity of this assertion, adding that the law criminalizes the appropriation of rights. Therefore, he will turn to the law to resolve the accusations made against him.
Additionally, another statement from the legal advisor of the Association of Authors and Composers affirmed that the association alone holds the rights to grant public performance rights, licenses, and re-publication for any songs by its members, including the star of the East, Om Kalthoum, whose songs were recorded for Cairo Sound audio and video company.
