After Rare Appearance of Hemeti... Burhan Calls for Classifying

The commander of the Sudanese army, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Burhan, urged the international community to confront the "patrons" of the Rapid Support Forces, which are in competition with the army, in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly today, Thursday.

For his part, the commander of the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemeti, expressed today his readiness to cease fire and engage in comprehensive political talks to end the conflict with the army. Dagalo made these remarks in a recorded video message directed to the UN General Assembly, which was released shortly before Lieutenant General Burhan's address to the assembly in New York.

Most of Hemeti's recent messages have been audio, and his whereabouts have been a subject of speculation since the outbreak of war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in mid-April. In the video released today, Hemeti appeared in military attire, sitting at a desk with the Sudanese national flag behind him as he read his speech. His location was not clear.
