Many people suffer from "nail fungi," which can sometimes lead to bothersome health complications. What are the symptoms of these diseases, and what are the prevention methods?
Russian doctor Tatyana Shapovalienko stated, "Most people view nail fungi as purely a cosmetic issue, but in addition to external defects, these types of fungi can cause serious health problems. People seek medical help when the nail starts to deteriorate due to fungal infection, which is a mistake; one should consult a doctor at the first signs of the disease."
She added, "Nail fungi can cause redness, allergic reactions, and ulcers that are difficult to treat. They can also cause problems for internal organs at times. When one finger is infected with fungi, the infection often spreads to the neighboring finger. Therefore, we should not delay in addressing the issue when it first appears."
The doctor pointed out various symptoms indicating a nail fungal infection, including a thickening of the nail, the appearance of white or yellow spots on it, nail peeling, abnormal growth in the skin, and a foul odor emanating from the affected area.
The doctor emphasized the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and thoroughly drying the body after bathing to prevent moisture from creating a suitable environment for fungi growth on the body. She also stressed the need to see a doctor when signs of the disease appear and to adhere to the treatment prescribed by the physician. She noted that some cases of skin fungal infections require long treatment periods, so patients must be patient and not neglect the instructions given by doctors.
