Mexican actress Ana Ofelia Murguía, known for voicing "Mama Coco" in the animated musical film "Coco," has passed away at the age of 90. The National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature in Mexico announced the news via X yesterday, without disclosing the cause of her death. They simply stated, "We send our condolences and warmly embrace her family and friends." The news quickly sparked sorrow, as messages of condolence flooded social media from fans of the film. During her career, the late actress was nominated for five Ariel Awards for Best Actress and received a "Medal in recognition of her contributions to the industry" last April, according to "The Sun." Last year, Maria Salud Ramirez Caballero, a Mexican woman believed to have inspired Mama Coco, passed away at 109 years old. The film was produced by Pixar Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, co-directed by Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina. The voice cast in 2017 included stars such as Benjamin Bratt, Gael García Bernal, Renée Victor, and Anthony Gonzalez. The story revolves around a 12-year-old Mexican boy named "Coco," who travels to the Land of the Dead to discover his family’s past and dreams of becoming a musician, only to be surprised by his presence in the world of the dead.
