Polish referee Szymon Marciniak faced several accusations of bias towards Real Madrid over Bayern Munich during the match between the two teams on Wednesday night. The match, which ended with Real Madrid winning 2-1, saw a controversial moment in the dying seconds with the non-acceptance of a potential equalizer by De Ligt during injury time.
Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" commented: "It is a catastrophic decision by the officiating body, because as is clear from the replay, it is impossible to know if there was an offside, and VAR should have intervened if the situation was not clear." The newspaper added, "While Marciniak blew his whistle before the ball was struck, the video assistant referee was unable to do anything."
