NATO Urges Israel to Protect Civilians

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg condemned today's attacks by Hamas on Israel, stating that the Israeli response in Gaza must respect international law. He elaborated in a speech delivered in Oslo: "At the same time, it is important that Israel's response is within the framework of international law, that civilians are protected, and that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza." Stoltenberg also warned today of the escalation of the war into a broader regional conflict. In this regard, he stated: "Iran, Hezbollah, and others must not exploit the situation. The suffering in recent weeks reminds us that we must not abandon efforts to achieve a sustainable and peaceful political solution to the conflict."
