The charges against nine Egyptians related to the drowning of a migrant boat off the coast of Greece in 2023 were dropped on Tuesday, following a Greek court's statement that it was not competent to hear the case, as the boat sank in international waters. The defendants, aged between 21 and 41, were arrested hours after the boat sank and have been held since then in preparation for their trial on charges of smuggling, causing the sinking of the boat, and belonging to a criminal organization. The defendants denied committing any wrongdoing.
