Jihad Al-Samad: We Are Preparing a Project to Determine the Fate of Municipal Elections

The Chairman of the Committee for National Defense, Interior, and Municipalities, MP Jihad Al-Samad, revealed that a "draft law is being prepared with several MPs from different blocs in parliament, under the principle of necessary legislation, for a legislative session after the Eid al-Fitr holiday. So far, three draft laws will be on the agenda: the first is a draft law to determine the fate of local and optional elections, either to be held on time, excluding municipalities located in areas subjected to continuous Israeli aggression against Lebanon for about six months, or to postpone these elections until suitable conditions are met. The second draft law concerns the volunteer civil defense workers, and the third involves amending certain articles of the 2024 budget law."

During a meeting at his home in Baakline, Al-Samad hosted a delegation of volunteer civil defense workers from the Akkar and Minieh centers. He pointed out that "we discussed with the Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri the civil defense law and the necessity of approving it. He has supported us in any direction we take. Additionally, the Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, helped in finding a legal opinion for you to receive your salaries and in finding a legal outlet for this issue in collaboration with other committees and fellow MPs, with whom we were able to engage in a real legislative workshop. This is an essential part of our role as MPs, alongside performing our duties of oversight and accountability. We will continue this role to address other issues and problems, including the matter of stamps, for which we will seek a solution to its market shortage and monopoly as soon as possible."
