Food We Used to Eat at Night for Weight Loss Can Cause Diabetes and Obesity

Dr. Zahra Pavlova, an endocrinologist, revealed a surprise regarding a food that doctors have advised patients to consume for decades: fermented dairy products at night. It has now become clear that this is a mistake. According to her, doctors believed that fermented dairy products were a beneficial and light snack at night because they positively affect the gut and are not high in calories.

In an interview with Sputnik Radio, Pavlova stated, "There is an old recommendation that a person should consume fermented dairy products, such as buttermilk or yogurt, at night. People have followed this recommendation for decades. However, it has recently been revealed that the benefits of these products before bed are merely a myth."

She continues, noting that doctors have had to change their views regarding the characteristics of fermented dairy products after the introduction of concepts like glycemic index and insulin in scientific usage. She explains, "It turns out that fermented dairy products actually have a high insulin index, and the peak activity of insulin in humans occurs in the evening. It became evident that a person consumes these products and goes to bed happily, but at night, their blood glucose level drops. Therefore, the liver begins to break down glucose quickly."

The doctor warns that regularly consuming fermented dairy products at night can become a factor in developing diabetes. Moreover, this contributes to the accumulation of fat tissue, and we are currently in an "era of obesity epidemic."
