The English Football Association has pledged to work with Greater Manchester Police regarding offensive chants directed at Liverpool fans by Manchester United supporters during an intense match in the FA Cup. According to the Independent, some Manchester United fans shouted phrases such as "you murderers" and made derogatory references to the victims of the Liverpool supporters. Those chants referenced the Hillsborough disaster, where 97 Liverpool supporters lost their lives in a crush during the FA Cup semi-final in 1989. Manchester United won the thrilling match against Liverpool with a score of 4-3. The FA stated, "We are aware of the reported tragedy during the FA Cup match today between Manchester United and Liverpool, and we will engage with Greater Manchester Police and support them." They added, "We strongly condemn any offensive and discriminatory chants in football stadiums, and we are committed to eradicating this behavior."
