Evacuation of Tourists from Avalanche in Eastern Russia, Two Dead

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced the evacuation of 9 tourists who survived an avalanche in the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East. According to the ministry's statement: "A Mi-8 helicopter from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations evacuated the surviving tourists to the city of Yelizovo, while rescuers and tourists had to walk a long distance to reach the helicopter, which did not fly over the avalanche area to avoid causing further avalanches." Yesterday, Monday, an avalanche engulfed a group of 11 tourists, resulting in the deaths of a 44-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man. The bodies of the deceased have not yet been recovered due to adverse weather conditions.
