The General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces reported that "after the New Year's Eve celebrations, the security maintenance and order consolidation operations carried out by the Internal Security Forces were successful, as no significant security incidents were recorded. The traffic measures taken served as a deterrent to drivers, as there were no fatalities from traffic accidents from 7:00 PM on December 31, 2023, until the morning of January 1, 2024. Gunfire in the air decreased in some areas; however, there were no fatalities or injuries from these incidents, aside from some material damages, according to ongoing investigations."
The statement emphasized that "strict orders were given to operational units within the Internal Security Forces to intensify their inquiries and investigations to identify the individuals who discharged their weapons, and efforts are ongoing to determine the names of the suspects and detain them in coordination with the relevant judiciary."
In this context, the Directorate expressed its belief in working under the vision of "Together towards a safer community," to combat this uncivilized and backward phenomenon. They called on citizens to contribute to reducing this issue by sending documented information (photos or videos) about individuals who insisted on expressing themselves in this criminal and unethical manner, fully aware that their actions threaten community security. This can be done through the "Report" service on the Internal Security Forces' website or via their social media pages, noting that the names of those who provide this information will remain confidential, as per the law.
Additionally, Director General of the Internal Security Forces, Major General Imad Osman, congratulated the personnel involved in the security measures and the deployment plan (officers, non-commissioned officers, and individuals) for their efforts and field actions, particularly on the roads, to facilitate matters for citizens and ensure their comfort while maintaining traffic safety during these exceptional circumstances Lebanon is experiencing and the challenges faced by the personnel. Major General Osman also extended his greetings to the leadership of the Lebanese Army and other security agencies for the measures they took to maintain security and order during this occasion.
