The commander of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo "Hamidti," indicated that he has assured the UN envoy to Sudan, Ramathan Lamamra, that "his forces will continue to defend themselves on all fronts." Hamidti added, in a statement, that he "discussed with Lamamra the situation in North Darfur and the (intentional) airstrikes by the Sudanese army." The commander of the Rapid Support Forces emphasized his readiness to cooperate with the United Nations and humanitarian organizations "to facilitate the delivery of aid throughout the country." The Rapid Support Forces are besieging the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, amid indications of an imminent assault on the only city in the region that remains outside their control. Last week, the World Food Program stated that 90 percent of those facing critical levels of hunger in Sudan are trapped in conflict zones. Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in a war that has resulted in many casualties and around 8 million displaced persons and refugees, according to the United Nations.
