A caretaker government session began on Wednesday morning, chaired by President Najib Mikati, with the absence of only 6 ministers: the Ministers of Defense, Foreign Affairs, Energy, Displaced Persons, Social Affairs, and Justice. However, the Ministers of Tourism, Walid Nassar, and Economy, Amin Saleh, who boycotted the previous session, participated. It is noteworthy that 7 Christian ministers out of 12 attended the government session, and with the attendance of Saleh and Nassar, the quorum remains secured even if the "Hezbollah" ministers withdraw, as announced by the Secretary-General of "Hezbollah" yesterday, who stated that the two ministers would withdraw after discussing the electricity topic.
Before the session began, the caretaker Minister of Economy, Amin Saleh, arrived to participate in the Cabinet meeting and stated: “I came today because this session is significant, with several important issues in the country, and most importantly, we need to reach a conclusion,” emphasizing, “We did not become ministers to sit at home.” Saleh clarified that he has never strayed from the "Sunni wing," noting that he "will not withdraw after the electricity item but will remain present until the end of the session," adding: “Previous successive governments should have declared a state of social and economic emergency."
Hezbollah sources confirmed that "even if the General Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricité du Liban, Kamal Hayek, do not attend, we will not adjourn the session." The Director General of "Electricité du Liban," Kamal Hayek, and a member of the Board of Directors of Electricité du Liban, Tarek Abdullah, attended the Cabinet session. Ministerial sources confirmed to LBCI that Minister Walid Fayyad would not intervene in the decision of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Electricité du Liban, Kamal Hayek, regarding attending or not attending the Cabinet session, especially since the invitation came from the Prime Minister, and he does not want to circumvent what President Mikati has done.
