The province of Basra has announced three days of mourning following a horrific traffic accident that resulted in about 20 students from Zahra Primary School in the Al-Hartha area being run over by a truck driver. Today, the Ministry of Health reported six fatalities and ten injuries from the incident, while the Ministry of Interior confirmed the arrest of the perpetrator.
In a statement, it was said, "Six fatalities and ten injuries have been recorded in the preliminary toll of the Basra incident, and the Ministry of Health is mobilized with all its resources to assist the injured and conduct the necessary actions under the personal supervision of the Minister of Health."
According to residents, this road is considered very dangerous due to the reckless speed of some vehicles, despite its rehabilitation and the installation of traffic signs about a year ago. It is referred to as Baghdad Street, as it connects Basra with Dhi Qar and Maysan. Later, the Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of the driver of the truck that ran over the students.
