Meloni Visits Egypt: Opening New Offices and Signing Agreements

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will begin a visit to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, this Sunday afternoon, where agreements will be signed in various fields, as part of the "Mattei" plan aimed at addressing the root causes of illegal migration, according to the Italian news agency "Nova." Meloni stated during a control room meeting regarding the "Mattei" plan at the Palazzo Chigi (the Italian Prime Minister's office): "I will visit Egypt on Sunday: there will be bilateral cooperation efforts formalized concerning the Mattei plan for cooperation in the agricultural and training sectors." She added, "We will also sign a series of agreements related to health, support for small and medium enterprises, and investments."

Additionally, new offices of the Italian Embassy in Cairo and the new headquarters of the Italian Deposits and Loans Fund, as well as the Italian Export Credit Agency "SACE," will be inaugurated today at the "Nile City" Towers.

Meloni's visit to Egypt is part of a broader context of a European delegation visit led by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, alongside Italian Prime Minister Meloni, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, to discuss ways to enhance the European partnership with Cairo.

The agenda includes discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi regarding migration, energy, climate, and investments. Furthermore, according to media reports, a €7.4 billion aid package from the European Union may be announced during the European delegation's visit.
