Khalaf Calls for Election of a President, Rejecting the Logic of Disruption

MP Melhem Khalaf rejected the disruption of electoral sessions aimed at preventing Sleiman Frangieh from reaching Baabda, affirming that he and MP Najat Aoun Saliba are committed to the constitutional obligation requiring their presence in the parliamentary council to elect a president for the republic.

In an interview with "Voice of Lebanon" radio, he stated: "The constitution is not a matter of convenience, and we are present in the council to emphasize the necessity of all MPs attending for the election of a president. Instead of negative actions, we invite the opposition to take positive steps; let us nominate any candidate we choose and agree upon a president to elect."

Regarding the opposition’s threat of mass resignations from the parliamentary council, he said: "All disruption and destruction are outside the priorities concerning people's issues. If they also intend to disrupt the parliamentary council to prevent the election of a president, this perfectly explains why they are undermining all institutions. The electoral headlines highlight the true image of Lebanon, where some are 'wasting' time while the top priority remains the election of a president for the proper functioning of constitutional and institutional work."
