Napoli took another step towards winning the Italian Serie A title after a 33-year wait, coming from behind to beat Lecce 2-1 thanks to a bizarre own goal by defender Antonino Gallo on Friday. Coach Luciano Spalletti's team strengthened their lead in the league with a 19-point advantage over second-placed Lazio, who face Juventus tomorrow, Saturday. Napoli, who have lost only three times in the league, the last being last Sunday against Milan, is on the brink of winning the title for the first time since 1990.
Napoli opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Giovanni Di Lorenzo, unmarked, headed in a cross from Kim Min-jae. Lecce equalized seven minutes into the second half when Federico Di Francesco pounced on a ball that the defense failed to clear in the penalty area, finding the net. In the 64th minute, Gallo headed the ball back to his goalkeeper Vladimiro Falcone, but the ball slipped from his hands into the net, marking Napoli's second goal.
