After the Rainstorm: A Green Cloud Appears in the UAE

As the United Arab Emirates experiences a weather system known as "Al-Hadeer Low" accompanied by heavy rainfall, a green cloud appeared in the sky over Dubai, specifically in Jebel Ali, today, Tuesday. This resulted in a thunderstorm and severe lightning.

The green cloud is a type of supercell cloud and one of the extreme weather phenomena that occur under very specific conditions, transforming daylight into darkness. This cloud is characterized by significant moisture in the upper layers of the atmosphere and two types of cold and warm moist air currents.

According to experts, its green color indicates a high amount of water it carries, along with hail, reflecting sunlight, which gives it a grassy color. The supercell green cloud is sometimes accompanied by a heavy hailstorm, with some hailstones reaching up to 7 cm in diameter.

On its part, the National Center of Meteorology stated that the country will see towering clouds over coastal areas until Tuesday afternoon, moving towards the eastern and northern regions, accompanied by varying rainfall with lightning and thunder, with a possibility of hail in some areas, according to the official WAM news agency.

They added that cloud formations will continue in the western regions moving inward from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning, where the amount of towering clouds will increase, bringing varying rainfall with lightning and thunder.

The center explained that "starting Wednesday morning, until noon, some towering clouds will form over coastal areas accompanied by rainfall, then focus on the eastern and northern regions, and the clouds will gradually decrease after that afternoon."

The National Center of Meteorology urged caution while driving in case of rainfall and to avoid areas prone to flash floods and water accumulation.
