The caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati renewed, during his meeting with British Foreign Minister David Cameron at his residence, the demand to "stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and southern Lebanon," considering that "the continuation of Israeli provocations in southern Lebanon could lead to a deterioration of the situation and the outbreak of a comprehensive war in the entire region." He called for "exerting maximum pressure to halt Israeli assaults on southern Lebanon," reiterating that "the entry point to stopping the war in Gaza begins with a ceasefire and then moving to negotiate a solution based on the two-state solution and granting the Palestinians their rights."
Mikati confirmed that "the continuation of British assistance to the army would support the military institution's efforts and work in this difficult circumstance." For his part, Cameron considered that "the escalation of the conflict from Gaza to Lebanon or the Red Sea or across the region as a whole could raise the level of risks and insecurity in the world." He added: "I am grateful to the Lebanese Prime Minister for discussing these critical issues with me today and for Lebanon's efforts to prevent such an escalation."
There was also a phone call between the Prime Minister and French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, during which the Prime Minister expressed his concern about "the escalation of Israeli aggression on southern Lebanon and the widespread targeting of civilians." He noted that "this persistence in assaults could lead Lebanon into a comprehensive confrontation that may affect all countries in the region." He called for "pressure on Israel to stop its ongoing violations."
