A delegation from the Progressive Socialist Party, including MP Hadi Abu al-Hassan and Secretary Zafar Nasir, visited the leader of the Kataeb Party, MP Sami Gemayel, at his headquarters in Bickfaya. The meeting was attended by Kataeb Party Secretary-General Serge Dagar, Politburo member Rita Boulos, and lawyer Sasin Sasin.
Following the meeting, Abu al-Hassan confirmed that the visit is a continuation of ongoing communication between the two parties and that there will be future meetings. He stated, "We emphasized the necessity of strengthening the Lebanese political reality, which requires avoiding vacancies and electing a president. We are always open to meetings in order to reach a stage where we can elect a president."
He added, "This is the right time, and we must fortify ourselves by electing a president. There was agreement on the need to avoid vacancy in the leadership of the army and extending the commander’s term and appointing the military council."
Abu al-Hassan stressed the importance of maintaining the army's structure to keep the institution strong and cohesive in facing challenges. He believed it is essential to preserve the delicate national balance, stating, "We had hoped for the extension and appointment in the Cabinet today, but we will face a proposal for extension, and we had presented two proposals as a Democratic Gathering last year to raise the retirement age, and we will discuss matters in the parliamentary council if appointment in the Cabinet becomes impossible."
