The Iraqi Ministry of Interior confirmed today, Sunday, that it will take strict measures against traders manipulating the prices of food items during the month of Ramadan. Ministry spokesperson, Brigadier General Muqdad Al-Moussawi, stated that "the Ministry of Interior will enhance its monitoring procedures during Ramadan regarding food prices and all traders through the Economic Crime Department." Al-Moussawi assured that "the Ministry of Interior will carry out operations to arrest traders who manipulate prices and enforce the law rigorously," noting that "the ministry will not allow, in any way, the monopolization of food items or price increases." He mentioned that "some departments within the Ministry of Interior, along with other security agencies like national security, are responsible for monitoring local market prices," warning traders manipulating prices of "strict actions should they raise food prices."
