Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Airline and the Group, indicated that "Al Maktoum International Airport is essential and important for accommodating the growth plans of airlines and keeping pace with future expansions in Dubai, as part of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33."
In an interview with "Sky News Arabia," he explained that the airport currently operates at a capacity of 35 million passengers annually, and many companies operate there. He clarified that most airlines currently operating at Dubai International Airport will transition to Al Maktoum International Airport within 8 to 10 years.
According to Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum's statements, it is expected that the number of passengers passing through Dubai International Airport will exceed 90 million by the end of 2024, stating: "Therefore, the Emirate of Dubai needs a larger airport to keep up with the growth in air traffic." He noted during a media briefing on the sidelines of the 31st edition of the Arabian Travel Market at the Dubai World Trade Centre that Dubai International Airport welcomed approximately 87 million passengers last year.
