Two Palestinian institutions reported today, Friday, that "the number of Palestinian detainees from the West Bank and Jerusalem has reached 8,665 since October 7th." A significant number of these individuals have been subjected to administrative detention. The Palestinian Authority's Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club stated in a joint statement: "The majority of those arrested in the ongoing campaigns since October 7th have been transferred to administrative detention, including women, children, the wounded, the sick, and the elderly." The two institutions that monitor the cases of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons noted that the number of administrative detainees has reached 3,600, among which are 40 children and 25 women, a record number. Israel employs an old British law that allows for the detention of Palestinians without trial for periods ranging from three to six months, renewable under the pretext of a secret security file for the detainee.
