The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced today, Friday, the installation of dozens of towers and cameras along with a plan to establish border posts in the area, in addition to relocating the 21st Border Guard Brigade for monitoring purposes. Major General Saad Ma'an, the Director of Relations and Media at the ministry, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "upon the directive of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and through the efforts and follow-up of the Minister of Interior, coordination has occurred with the Kurdistan Region to reopen the 21st Border Guard Brigade in the Sulaymaniyah province along the border with Iran."
He added that "50 concrete towers and 40 cameras have been installed, and construction of 47 border posts will begin along the Iraqi-Iranian zero line. This work is part of the border control operation, and next week, specialized contracting companies will be invited to submit bids, followed by the start of implementation."
He further stated that "next week, a monitoring center for border cameras will also be inaugurated, which will utilize 130 cameras, with ongoing efforts to add more. These cameras will provide monitoring from the Sinjar district and along the Iraqi-Syrian border, extending throughout the border region, and a large monitoring hall will be opened to utilize these cameras for security work."
Previously, the Cabinet decided to allocate 10 billion dinars to the Ministry of Interior for the construction of border posts on the Iraqi-Iranian border within the Kurdistan Region to prevent infiltration and smuggling, while also completing the posts on the Iraqi-Turkish border.
