Lebanon Electricity Workers Union Announces Strike Tomorrow

The Executive Council of the Lebanon Electricity Workers and Employees Union announced a strike starting tomorrow until the 25th of this month. In a statement, it expressed its full support for the statement issued by the Union of Trade Unions for Independent Institutions and Public Establishments on Thursday, April 18, 2024, which includes the following demands:

- Approval of a cost of living increase.

- Full health coverage including medical and hospital differences.

- Restoration and correction of the purchasing power of salaries and wages.

- Restoration of the purchasing power of end-of-service indemnities.

- Securing funds to cover the entitlements of employees in public institutions.

- Rejection of amendments to the decree on the maximum earning subject to deductions for the disease and maternity insurance branch.

Therefore, the Executive Council of the Union called on "colleagues to commit to the strike and not to attend work at all centers starting from tomorrow, April 19, until April 25, 2024, inclusive, and the sessions will remain open in coordination with the General Labor Union to take the appropriate position. The strike will exclude operations in production plants, shifts at main conversion stations, and the coordination department, as well as anything that poses a threat to public safety in coordination with the union."
