The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric, stated today, Saturday, that "the war in Gaza has shattered all meanings of our shared humanity," calling for "an end to hostilities, the release of hostages, and access to Palestinian detainees."

Spoljaric said in a statement, "After five months of war between Israel and Hamas, the situation in the Gaza Strip worsens every hour, and there is no safe place to go." She deemed the "number of civilian casualties and hostage-taking shocking and unacceptable." She added, "This brutal war has broken every sense of shared humanity."

In response to this "deep suffering," the Geneva-based committee is launching three urgent appeals. It calls for "an end to hostilities" to facilitate the work of humanitarian workers. The organization emphasizes the necessity of "treating Palestinian detainees humanely and allowing them to contact their families," also demanding that the International Committee of the Red Cross be informed and allowed to visit Palestinians detained by Israel.
