Ghostly Figures Appear in the Waters of the Caribbean

The underwater park "Moliniere Bay" in Grenada, created by British sculptor and environmentalist Jason deCaires Taylor in 2006, is one of the most famous underwater attractions in the Caribbean. In an interview with CNN, deCaires Taylor stated, "It is clear that the carnival is a very strong part of Grenada's culture and history, so we wanted to tell that story." He added, "It's interesting to learn about the different masquerade characters and their history."

All the sculptures, partially constructed in the UK, are inspired by real individuals who served as models for the artists. The majority of the new pieces were created by deCaires Taylor, who collaborated with various local artists to ensure they "represent the characters." Many of the famous masquerade characters are reflected, such as "Jab Jab," a character with chains considered a symbol of freedom for Grenadians.

The sculptures have been designed to serve as artificial coral reefs, with holes and shelters to attract marine life, creating a wonderful habitat for them. This is the first time deCaires Taylor has introduced colors into his underwater sculptures. He explained, "Usually, they are very gray... this time we used natural pigments to paint the sculptures."
