Russia Begins Exercises on the Use of Nuclear Weapons

The Russian Ministry of Defense indicated today, Tuesday, that its forces have started the first phase of military drills, which include practical training on preparing non-strategic "tactical" nuclear weapons and using them in the southern military district. In a statement, it said: "By order of the Supreme Commander, a military exercise has commenced that involves training on the preparation and use of tactical nuclear weapons, in the southern military district under the supervision of the General Staff." According to the statement, the exercises aim to "enhance the readiness of personnel and equipment of the units involved in the combat use of tactical nuclear weapons, in order to counter any threats and ensure the safety of the Russian state's territory and sovereignty unconditionally."
