The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division reported today, Sunday, that "as part of the pursuit of members of theft gangs conducted by specialized units in the Internal Security Forces, and as a result of ongoing monitoring, the Information Branch was able to track a gang whose members were carrying out motorcycle thefts in several areas of Mount Lebanon and the South Governorates. Consequently, specialized units of the branch began field and investigative procedures to identify the members of the mentioned gang. As a result of inquiries and investigations, they identified the perpetrators, including the mastermind of the gang, identified as A.T. (born in 1998, Syrian), who has a criminal record."
It added that "on February 17, 2024, after precise surveillance, one of the branch patrols was able to apprehend the suspect while riding a motorcycle, which was seized, after setting up a well-organized ambush in the town of Sharon. Upon searching him and the motorcycle, a quantity of hashish, tools used in theft operations, and a knife were discovered. During the interrogation, he confessed to the charges against him regarding his involvement in dozens of motorcycle thefts, in collaboration with others, using the tools seized from him, in various areas of Mount Lebanon and the South, including: Jadra, Berj, Wadi Zina, Ramela, Sidon, Abra, and Halaliyeh. He added that they used to sell the stolen motorcycles in the Sabra camp. He also confessed to drug trafficking."
The necessary legal procedures were taken against him, and he, along with the seized items, was referred to the relevant authorities based on the instruction of the competent judiciary, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other members of the gang.
