The Arab group has called for a vote on a resolution for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during a session scheduled to be held at the Security Council tonight, according to the Palestinian news agency "Wafa." The Arab group urged all Security Council members to vote in favor of the resolution proposed by the elected members, which is set to be voted on today, in order to enable the council to speak with one voice and act without further delay in addressing this critical situation.
The group held a meeting today, Saturday, in New York at the level of permanent ambassadors, chaired by the Republic of Yemen. The group emphasized the need for constructive engagement with the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, particularly in relation to the State of Palestine and the Palestinian people, who are suffering from the illegal Israeli occupation and the humanitarian disaster caused by the ongoing military aggression in Gaza since October 7.
The statement indicated that the Arab group will remain mobilized to achieve an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, ensure the rapid and continuous flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, prevent any forced displacement of Palestinian civilians, and guarantee their protection in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions. The statement emphasized support for ongoing efforts to reach an agreement, and full backing for the Security Council's actions and the resolution sponsored by elected Security Council members, which has widespread support both inside and outside the council, calling for an immediate ceasefire during the month of Ramadan leading to a permanent and sustainable ceasefire.
