European diplomats announced that the EU governments agreed today, Friday, to impose sanctions on nine Iranian entities and individuals, including Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiyani, for supplying drones to Russia used in its war against Ukraine. The agreement made by ambassadors of the EU member states in Brussels under the title (Coreper) will be announced after approval from the bloc's foreign ministers during a meeting next Monday. One diplomat stated that the agreement approved the inclusion of "nine entities under the Iranian drone section. Work is still ongoing on some technical details, but EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell will announce the political agreement at the Foreign Affairs Council on Monday." A second diplomat confirmed that Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiyani is included in the agreed-upon sanctions list. The sanctions include travel bans, asset freezes on individuals and entities, and deprivation of funding sources and economic resources.
