Istanbul Airport has adopted a unique method using adorable dogs to reduce stress for passengers suffering from travel anxiety. The Associated Press reported that the five dogs present at the airport help provide support to travelers who feel anxious or fearful of flying, allowing them to hug, pet, and kiss the dogs. The aim of this experience is to alleviate stress and anxiety among travelers. The agency noted that all dogs at the airport are certified and professionally trained to alleviate human anxiety and stress.
Kadir Demirtaş, the customer service manager at Istanbul Airport, stated, "We have to ensure that they are 100% safe and adapted to all environments." Meanwhile, the team's veterinarian, Volkan Arslan, pointed out that "the dogs roam the airport accompanied by their trainers who are responsible for their care, and these pets are considered employees at the airport. They wear badges and official uniforms, have a specific schedule, and work during peak travel hours, from 10 AM to 4 PM."
Volkan Gül, the trainer of the dog Alita participating in the mentioned program, said, "We are always surrounded by people constantly petting her," adding that this helps them relax. The dog team began service at the airport in late February after months of preparation and intensive training, including adjusting to sensitivity to distracting external stimuli such as sounds and crowds.
