A Swedish singer of Palestinian descent challenged the political symbolism ban at the "Eurovision" contest by wearing a Palestinian kufiya. He expressed his protest against Israel's participation in the event taking place in Malmö, Sweden. Swedish artist Eric Saade caught attention during the opening performance, as he had previously announced his intention to use his appearance to protest Israel's involvement, which he demonstrated by wrapping a kufiya around his wrist.
His action was criticized by the Swedish public broadcaster "SVT," which organizes this sixty-eighth edition along with the European Broadcasting Union. The executive producer of the contest, Eba Adelson, remarked that "it is unfortunate that he exploited his participation in this way."
