China Mobile, the largest telecommunications company in China, has announced the commercial launch of its advanced fifth generation network, "5G-A." The company revealed an initial list of 100 cities that plan to market this advanced network and announced plans to expand the "5G-A" network to more than 300 cities by the end of 2024, aiming to create the largest commercial network of its kind in the world.
China Media Group stated that "5G-A" (5.5G) represents an important stage in the evolution from "5G" to "6G," promising to increase network capacity by tenfold, with features such as higher speeds, greater connectivity, and lower latency compared to traditional fifth-generation networks. The "5G-A" network integrates sensory technologies, artificial intelligence, and a multi-layered network extending from space to the ground, expected to significantly enhance and expand existing applications used by individuals and industries.
In this context, Gao Tongqing, the deputy general manager of China Mobile, said: "The commercial launch of the '5G-A' network allows us to enjoy a faster, smoother, and more inclusive network with improved stability and environmental perception capabilities, and we will continue to enhance the adoption of additional '5G' applications."
In a related development, Chinese technology giant Huawei, in collaboration with China Mobile and other industry partners, has formed alliances aimed at developing innovative "5G-A" technologies and furthering the development of devices and applications associated with this advanced network.
