A statement issued by the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division reads: "As part of the ongoing follow-up by the Internal Security Forces to limit the theft of electrical cables from the public network in various Lebanese regions, and as a result of field and investigative work carried out by the specialized units in the Information Branch, a gang was monitored whose members were executing thefts of electrical cables from the public network of the Electricité du Liban in several areas of Nabatiyeh.
Following extensive investigations and inquiries conducted by the branch, the identities of the mentioned gang members were established, identified as: On 08-03-2024, after precise observation, one of the Information Branch patrols arrested them in the town of Haboush – Nabatiyeh. During a search, two mobile phones and a sum of money were seized from them.
During interrogation, they confessed to the charges against them regarding their involvement in multiple thefts of electrical cables from the public network of Electricité du Liban in various areas of Nabatiyeh, and selling them in scrap metal locations. They also admitted to stealing donation boxes from commercial establishments and places of worship in several towns in Nabatiyeh.
Legal measures were taken against them, and they were handed over with the seized items to the relevant authorities based on judicial orders."
