Libyan Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh announced that the council is ready to conduct presidential elections in Libya before the year's end and called on the international community for "support and encouragement." In statements to the "Asharq" website during his attendance at the Arab Parliament meetings in Cairo, he stated that "the constitutional framework, the presidential election law, and the parliamentary election law have been issued, and the Electoral Commission is ready, and the mechanism for electing the Prime Minister is present; we want the international community to encourage us."
He pointed out that "there are people who do not want to leave their positions in Libya," adding: "Do you know that I am the only elected Parliament Speaker who calls for elections today before tomorrow, as the interests of the nation require conducting the elections."
The Libyan Parliament Speaker emphasized that "initially a single government must be formed; it is not appropriate to hold elections under two governments, one in the east and the other in the west." He also revealed "ongoing communications with the High Council of State to reach an agreement regarding the mechanism for forming the government," stating: "In principle, we agreed that the candidate should be endorsed by obtaining 20 members from the High Council of State and 10 from the House of Representatives, who will present themselves to the House of Representatives along with those who meet the same conditions."
He mentioned that "the House of Representatives, based on the program presented by the candidate, is the one that chooses who to grant confidence to in order to assign the formation of the government."
