Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the "success" of Egypt and Qatar's efforts in reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, calling on the international community to exert pressure on Israel to adhere to the agreement. The official Palestinian news agency "Wafa" reported that Abbas welcomed the "announcement of the success of the Egyptian and Qatari efforts in reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip."
The Palestinian president expressed his "satisfaction with this agreement, which has been a priority for the Palestinian leadership since the first day of the aggression on the Gaza Strip." He expressed hope for "Israel's commitment to stop the aggression and fully withdraw from the Gaza Strip."
He urged the international community to "exert pressure on Israel to commit to this agreement and to continue efforts aimed at ending the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine."
Earlier on Monday, Hamas stated in a statement that its political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh informed Qatar and Egypt of the movement's approval of the proposal from the intermediary countries regarding a ceasefire agreement with Israel in the Gaza Strip.
The private channel "Cairo News" reported, citing a high-ranking source without naming them, that a Hamas delegation will arrive in the Egyptian capital on Tuesday to continue negotiations over a prisoner exchange with Israel and the ceasefire in Gaza.
Through the mediation of Egypt and Qatar, with the participation of the United States, Israel and Hamas have been conducting indirect negotiations for months to reach a prisoner exchange deal and a ceasefire in the besieged territory, which had previously stalled at various stages.
