Jordan to Hamas: Peace is Our Strategic Choice

The Jordanian Minister of Government Communication and government spokesperson, Muhannad Mubaidien, affirmed today that "any attempts to incite against the Jordanian state are desperate attempts that seek to divert our focus." He added, "We hope that Hamas leaders will direct their advice and calls for maintaining peace and encouraging resilience among our people in Gaza." Mubaidien emphasized that "Jordan is a sovereign country with its constitutional references, and its leadership rises above these references. When King Abdullah II leads the Arab position, we do not pay attention to some political frivolities or those who wish to gain popularity on the ruins of the devastation that has occurred in Gaza as a result of this catastrophic war." He stressed that "the Jordanian position is honorable, ethical, and respected, and we appreciate the people coming out to demand an end to this war, which has been the position of Jordan since the first day of the war, where it described it as a war of extermination."

"This position comes because the Palestinian cause has a special Jordanian aspect and is part of our national security," according to the Jordanian government spokesperson. He explained that "there are miserable ideologies and populisms that seek to galvanize public opinion by exploiting emotions and sentiments." Mubaidien added: "There is a bankruptcy of forces that seek to undermine the Jordanian position or compel Jordan to make different choices." The spokesperson also mentioned that "peace is our strategic choice, and the peace treaty is what enables us to play our role in alleviating pressures on our people in the West Bank."
