The Office of the President of Namibia announced that "President Hage Geingob passed away in hospital early this Sunday at the age of 82 after weeks of being diagnosed with cancer." The president's office stated he died at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek, where he was being treated by his medical team. The announcement on the social media platform X did not specify the cause of death, but at the end of last month, the president's office announced he would be traveling to the United States for treatment following a cancer diagnosis after a routine medical check-up. Geingob had announced in 2014, while serving as Prime Minister, that he was cured of prostate cancer. He became the president of the country the following year. Vice President Nangolo Mbumba will lead the country until presidential and parliamentary elections are held at the end of the year. Namibia's presidential and parliamentary elections are scheduled for the end of the year.
