Iraq: Ending UNAMI’s Work Does Not Mean a Break with the United Nations

Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani affirmed today, Tuesday, that the UN Security Council's decision to set a deadline for ending the work of the UNAMI mission in Iraq by the end of 2025 does not mean a break with the United Nations and specialized international agencies.

In his remarks during a Cabinet session, he stated that "the recent Security Council decision to end the UNAMI mission was made at the request of the government and represents an international acknowledgment of the progress made in Iraq in all areas."

Al-Sudani added that "international organizations have reached a positive assessment of Iraq’s performance that supports stability," emphasizing that "ending UNAMI's work does not mean a break with the United Nations and specialized international agencies."

The Prime Minister noted that "Iraq is the cornerstone of any stabilization process in the region."
