A spokesperson for former U.S. President Donald Trump's campaign stated on Saturday that Trump has raised about $20 million in the past three weeks, a period coinciding with his indictments on federal and state charges related to his false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him. Trump's spokesperson, Stephen Chong, announced on X platform that the former president raised $7.1 million since his booking on Thursday for his mugshot in the extortion and fraud case in Atlanta, Georgia. Chong added that Trump raised $4.18 million on Friday alone, making it the highest daily total for his campaign thus far. Trump, who was elected president in 2016 but lost to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020, is seeking the Republican nomination again to run for president. He faces four charges related to his false claims about election theft and the attack by his supporters on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. However, he has denied all charges. On August 15, a grand jury in Georgia indicted Trump after an investigation led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis concerning his efforts to overturn his loss to Biden in the 2020 election in the state. On August 3, Trump pleaded not guilty to charges brought against him by special prosecutor Jack Smith in federal court in Washington, which allege that he conspired to defraud the United States by preventing Congress from certifying Biden's victory in the 2020 election and depriving voters of their right to vote in a fair election.
