U.S. State Department Condoles with Raisi: We Affirm Our Support for Iranians’ Fight for Rights and Freedoms

The U.S. State Department expressed its condolences to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, his Foreign Minister, and the accompanying delegation, while also reaffirming its support for the "fight of the Iranian people for human rights and freedoms." In a statement reported by "Russia Today," the United States extended condolences to Iranian President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdollahian, and other members of their delegation regarding the helicopter crash in northwest Iran. It added, "As Iran selects a new president, we again reaffirm our support for the Iranian people and their struggle for human rights and fundamental freedoms." The U.S. State Department stated that the death of the Iranian president would not change its fundamental stance toward Iran, noting that "Tehran requested our assistance in the Iranian president's helicopter incident, and we were unable to provide that for logistical reasons." For its part, the White House also expressed condolences to the Iranian president, stating that "we do not have details or information about the incident," while affirming it would continue to hold Iran accountable for its destabilizing behavior.
