It added, "As Iran selects a new president, we again reaffirm our support for the Iranian people and their struggle for human rights and fundamental freedoms." The U.S. State Department stated that the death of the Iranian president would not change its fundamental stance toward Iran, noting that "Tehran requested our assistance in the Iranian president's helicopter incident, and we were unable to provide that for logistical reasons." For its part, the White House also expressed condolences to the Iranian president, stating that "we do not have details or information about the incident," while affirming it would continue to hold Iran accountable for its destabilizing behavior.
