Moroccan police managed to seize over 18 tons of hashish in its resin form, known in Morocco as "Shira," in the coastal area of Sidi Rahal, south of Casablanca. The police stated in a statement that they arrested five individuals who were caught transporting the prohibited substance on a truck and attempting to load it onto fast rubber boats. They added that they have begun investigating the detainees' connections to local and international drug trafficking networks. Morocco has intensified its security campaigns against drug trafficking in recent months, resulting in seizures including 10.7 tons of hashish in Agadir on the Atlantic coast in March, and 19.5 tons of hashish in resin form hidden inside a truck loaded with octopus and bound for Spain last June. Rabat consistently focuses on enhancing surveillance at its borders to apprehend those involved in smuggling drug shipments to Europe or Africa.
