Video: Brawl Disrupts Session for Election of Iraqi Parliament President

A brawl occurred this evening, Saturday, inside the Iraqi Parliament, leading to the suspension of the session for electing a new president until further notice. Details reveal there was a verbal altercation and physical confrontation between deputies from "Taqaddum" and colleagues from other blocs regarding the election of the parliament president.

The Iraqi Parliament once again failed to hold a "decisive" third round to tip the balance in favor of one of the candidates, Deputy Salem Al-Aisawi from the "Sovereignty" party and Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, supported by the "Taqaddum" party.

According to the media office of the Parliament, Deputy Salem Al-Aisawi received 158 votes, Deputy Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani received 137 votes, Deputy Amer Abdul Jabbar received 3 votes, while there were 13 invalid votes.

Each candidate needs 166 votes to win the position of Parliament President, and if no candidate receives the required votes, the Parliament proceeds to a third round of voting among the same candidates, excluding anyone who withdraws.
