The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division announced in a statement that a number of protesters against the security plan threw stones at the Mareige police station and fired shots into the air. The personnel responded by firing into the air to disperse them from the area. It confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries among the protesters or military personnel, contrary to what some media and social media have circulated. It stated that any attack on its units and personnel would be rejected, regardless of the justifications, noting that this security plan was a demand from everyone to protect citizens on public roads from theft, robbery, and reckless behavior from motorcycle drivers, in addition to the lack of helmet use, which has led to an increase in fatalities among them in traffic accidents. The General Directorate emphasized that the security plan is meant to protect people and not to seek retribution or revenge, citing a significant decrease in crime rates as a result.
