A member of the Iraqi Parliament from the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Mahma Khalil, expressed his views today, Friday, on Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi's visit to Iraq, considering Iranian mediation to be important between Baghdad and Erbil. Khalil stated in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the Iranian president's visit to Iraq is based on the realities and circumstances of the region and the significant relations between Baghdad and Tehran," reminding that "the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, visited Iran." He added, "We have historical relations with Iran, which has often stood with us since the struggle against the dictatorial regime and the fight against ISIS." Khalil confirmed that "Baghdad and Erbil desire to develop relations with Tehran, and there is Iranian effort to reduce the gaps between the center and the region," noting that "Raisi's visit will resolve many issues." Additionally, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, announced on May 7, 2024, the upcoming visit of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi to Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region.
